This is the silver spade was used by Mayor Robert A. An Wyck and Banker A. Belmont to brake ground on new Rapid Transit subway.
These cars removed the debris from the blasting from the tunnels. This was done all by hand.
The use of dynamite to blast through the stone when making the subway was a dangerous job.
